Reflections Of The Trojan War

Description

*The wrath do thou sing, O goddess, of Peleus’son, Achilles, that baneful wrath which brought countless woes upon the Achaeans, and sent forth to Hades many valiant souls of warriors, and made themselves to be a spoil for dogs and all manner of birds; and thus the will of Zeus was being brought to fulfilment; ó sing thou thereof from the time when at the first there parted in strife Atreus’son, king of men, and goodly Achilles.*

Who then of the gods was it that brought these two together to contend? The son of Leto and Zeus; for he in wrath against the king roused throughout the host an evil pestilence, and the folk were perishing, for that upon the man Chryses, his priest, had the son of Atreus wrought dishonour.

Helen is reflecting on her actions that led to the burning of Troy....

This is a new work based on an older one I had done, another early one I wasn't all that happy with and wanted to remake anew, this one is more fiery and dark and more how I wanted to portray it originally.

I love The Iliad, the story fixates me in it's poetic telling of a time when Gods made and broke our destiny. I thought I'd write the first verse in a Greek writing style on the work.

The last line of the book is my favourite..."at the funeral of Hector, tamer of horses". With the death of Hector came the death of valour, honour and the old cultured ways of Apollo and in it's place came the barbaric warrior, albeit ready to be tamed, and ironically it is only with the death of Hector and the end of Troy that the Achaeans are tamed...
